Prime Minister Vasile Tofan met with Natalia Voutova, the new head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, who began her mandate on August 1. The officials discussed the priorities of cooperation between Moldova and the Council of Europe, focusing on strengthening democratic institutions, judicial reform, combating corruption and protecting human rights.
The prime minister praised the partnership with the Council of Europe and the expertise it provides in implementing reforms needed to advance Moldova’s European path. Tofan also stressed that European integration requires strong institutions, respect for democratic principles and a justice system trusted by citizens and the business community.
In this context, the two officials discussed measures needed to strengthen the rule of law and increase public confidence in the justice system. The prime minister also highlighted the importance of strengthening Moldova’s profile as a safe and predictable country, including for investors.
Another topic was expanding cooperation with the Council of Europe Development Bank to implement infrastructure projects in healthcare, roads and irrigation, including projects envisaged under Moldova’s Growth Plan.
