The head of diplomacy from Chisinau, Nicu Popescu, had a meeting with the new country representative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in the Republic of Moldova, Francesca Bonelli, on the occasion of the start of her mandate in the new position.
Minister Nicu Popescu thanked for the recent participation in the Support Platform of the Republic of Moldova held in Bucharest, as well as for the assistance provided to public institutions in order to strengthen the institutional capacities to respond to the refugee crisis.
Another topic discussed was vulnerable refugees, people with disabilities, victims of violence or human trafficking. The UN official emphasized that the agency is ready to support the authorities in case of a new wave of refugees.
“We have expressed full openness in promoting joint efforts to overcome the implications of the refugee crisis,” said the Foreign Minister.
