The Romania has decided to allocate €56 million to acquire the stake held by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in the Giurgiulesti International Free Port, located in the Republic of Moldova, Antena 3 CNN, reports.

The decision was approved during the Romanian government meeting on April 9. Authorities in Bucharest will use funds from the state budget reserve to increase the capital of the National Company Maritime Ports Administration Constanța, which will carry out the transaction.

The financing will support the full acquisition of Danube Logistics SRL, the company that operates the port. Romania had previously announced its intention to buy the shares held by the EBRD, and the move has now been approved at both governmental and corporate levels.

Officials say the plan is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the role of the Port of Constanța in the Black Sea region and to expand port capacity through long-term investments.

At the same time, the takeover could create new logistical opportunities for operators from both Romania and Moldova, especially in the context of Ukraine’s future reconstruction.
