President Maia Sandu and German Foreign Minister Reaffirm Strong Bilateral Ties During Chisinau Meeting

President Maia Sandu met with Germany’s Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, during his first official visit to Chisinau since taking office in May 2025. The two leaders reaffirmed Moldova and Germany’s strong partnership and shared commitment to advancing regional peace and security.

President Sandu thanked Germany for providing steadfast support during recent crises, especially in the energy sector. She emphasized that German aid helped Moldovan citizens cope with rising utility costs. She also acknowledged Germany’s role in funding development projects that improved living conditions, including the expansion of water and sewage infrastructure in Cahul, Calarasi, and Straseni, as well as initiatives to strengthen Moldova’s defense capabilities.

The President praised Germany’s active support for Moldova’s European integration. She noted that, as a founding member of the European Union, Germany plays a vital role in supporting Moldova’s economic growth. She emphasized that Germany remains one of Moldova’s key trade partners and a leading source of foreign direct investment, helping to foster innovation and create stable, well-paying jobs.
