President Maia Sandu summoned the Supreme Security Council (CSS) to a meeting on 11 November. She addressed the issue of political corruption and called for swift and decisive action to combat it. The presidential press service reported it.
“The buying of votes in this autumn’s elections, foreign funding of candidates, and destabilization efforts are serious attacks on our country’s democracy and security. Criminal groups nearly distorted the results of both ballots through illegal means and dirty money,” President Sandu emphasized.
She noted that the country now faces this situation due to the lack of timely action against political corruption. “The limited response from the prosecutor’s office and delays in court cases created a sense of impunity, allowing criminal groups to draw many people into vote-buying schemes. We have only a few months to improve the situation and prevent such fraud in the future,” Sandu stated.

President Sandu also shared that the CSS recommended the government, parliament, and relevant institutions establish a robust framework to prioritize and expedite political corruption cases and strengthen legislation in the national security sector.
“We can still improve our legal framework and procedures, but the most crucial element is that those in the justice system work with integrity. I thank everyone who worked tirelessly to protect citizens’ votes in these elections,” said President Sandu.
Additionally, Sandu announced that she would hold public discussions with political parties and civil society representatives by the end of the week to outline steps to combat political and electoral corruption.
