Military actions in Ukraine have accelerated the rapprochement of Georgia and Moldova with the European Union. This opinion was expressed by Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili in an interview given to Sky News TV channel.
“We [with Ukraine] stand on the same path. We know that our only prospect is greater rapprochement with the European Union. This is the path we are taking together. We were an associated trio with Moldova. The war in Ukraine accelerated this path and brought our countries to the status of candidates [for EU membership],” Zurabishvili said during her visit to the UK, TASS reported.
As a reminder, Moldova received the status of a candidate country for EU membership at the same time as Ukraine. On June 23, 2022, a meeting of the Council of Europe was held in Brussels, during which the presidents and heads of government of 27 EU countries unanimously voted in favor.
