The Constitution’s adoption celebration is a significant event for any nation aspiring to achieve its ideal of living in a democracy as a sovereign and equal state within the global community. Cristian-Augustin Niculescu-Tsagarlash, President of the Romanian Senate’s Committee for Legal Matters, Appointments, Discipline, Immunities, and Validations, made statements to this effect at a solemn meeting dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption.
“This fundamental document reaffirmed Moldova’s desire to live under the rule of law alongside other nations. On July 29, 1994, the country adopted its Constitution, which enshrines the century-old aspirations of the people to live in a sovereign country and meet the citizens’ interests. The Constitution is the document that expresses the aspiration to establish a rule of law state, valuing civic peace, personal dignity, rights and freedoms, the free development of the human personality, justice, and political pluralism as supreme values. It reaffirms the lawmakers’ dedication, as the plenipotentiary representatives of Moldova’s people, to universal human values and the desire to live in peace and harmony with all nations, according to the universally recognized principles and norms of international law,” the Romanian senator said.
Cristian-Augustin Niculescu-Tsagarlash also noted, “As a Romanian senator and committee president, I am your sincere and dedicated friend. The European states are united in their firm support for Moldova. Romania and the Romanian people are determined to support you in your important and legitimate pursuit of European integration, drawing on our 17 years of experience as an EU member and as a NATO member. Moldova’s support for cooperation with the North-Atlantic Alliance is well known.”

The Romanian senator expressed his confidence that the relations between the two countries would continue to be mutually beneficial. “I want to convey a simple and heartfelt message: Every time I come to Chisinau, I feel at home, as I sense the blood of my ancestors, those who founded the state in Moldova, such as Dragos and Bogdan,” Cristian-Augustin Niculescu-Tsagarlash added.
The Day of the Republic of Moldova’s Constitution is celebrated annually on July 29. The Parliament adopted the Fundamental Law on July 29, 1994, and it came into force on August 27, 1994. Moldova’s Parliament convened a solemn meeting to mark the 30th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption. The meeting brought together current and former MPs, former Moldovan presidents and parliament speakers, former presidents of the Constitutional Court, and members of the commission and working group who were directly involved in drafting the state’s Fundamental Law.
