President Sandu Meets Austrian Counterpart, Discusses Bilateral Cooperation and EU Accession

During her official visit to Salzburg, President Maia Sandu of the Republic of Moldova met with her Austrian counterpart, President Alexander Van der Bellen, to discuss bilateral cooperation and the European integration process.

The meeting between the two leaders was described as warm and friendly, emphasizing the close friendship between the Republic of Moldova and Austria. President Sandu expressed her gratitude to President Van der Bellen for Austria’s unwavering support for Moldova, both in terms of development assistance and backing for their European aspirations.

“I had a warm meeting with President Alexander Van der Bellen – a true friend of the Republic of Moldova. I thanked President Van der Bellen for Austria’s support, which has been instrumental in the development of our country and in advancing our European path,” stated President Sandu.

The assistance provided by the Austrian Development Agency has significantly contributed to raising the living standards of Moldovan citizens. Notably, Austria is aiding in the construction of a water purification station in Edineț, which will benefit approximately 26,000 people in the municipalities of Edineț and Cupcini.

Apart from development cooperation, the two leaders discussed the crucial matter of initiating accession negotiations between Moldova and the European Union. President Sandu emphasized the importance of this step, which would bring the Republic of Moldova closer to European integration and unlock numerous opportunities for the country and its citizens.

In addition to their official discussions, President Sandu extended an invitation to President Van der Bellen to visit the Republic of Moldova later in the year. The visit would further solidify the collaboration between the two nations and foster the realization of joint projects that serve the interests of both Moldovan and Austrian citizens.
