During her visit to The Hague, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, had a discussion with Prime Minister Mark Rutte, as communicated by the Presidential Press Service to MOLDPRES.
“We have increasingly close ties with the Netherlands, especially following the Dutch Government’s decision to open an embassy in Chisinau in April – a sign of trust and solidarity,” stated Maia Sandu.
The President expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Rutte for the support of our European path, emphasizing that we count on the Netherlands’ support in initiating negotiations for EU accession.
“We discussed how we can increase the volume of trade and strengthen economic relations. Yesterday, we took an important step in this direction – the foreign ministries signed the Protocol amending the bilateral Convention to avoid double taxation on income and capital. In October, we will organize a business forum between our countries,” Added She.

President Maia Sandu also expressed her gratitude for the development assistance provided by Dutch partners in several key areas: justice reform, good governance, human rights, freedom of the press, support for civil society, as well as in the energy and security sectors. “Our country has reliable partners who support us through concrete projects and help us strengthen the Republic of Moldova and remain a part of the free and democratic world,” emphasized the head of state.
From September 3rd to 5th, President Maia Sandu conducted a working visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands to promote our country’s EU accession and bilateral economic relations.
