Moldova’s 60-day state of emergency concludes today, and the government will not extend it for now. Prime Minister Dorin Recean stated that authorities have created the necessary conditions to ensure the natural gas supply to the Transnistrian region, making the state of emergency unnecessary.
“This measure was essential for purchasing gas and electricity after Russia halted gas deliveries to the Transnistrian region,” Recean explained.
Key Decisions from the Emergency Situations Commission
Recean also announced several important decisions approved at today’s meeting of the Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE):
- 1.2 billion lei from international partners will be allocated to the compensation fund to cover rising heating costs. Citizens enrolled in the compensation program will receive monthly financial aid between 500 and 1,400 lei for the heating season, including March.
- 30 million euros in emergency humanitarian aid from the European Union will receive Energocom. During this period, Energocom has already spent 20 million euros on gas for the left bank and 10 million euros on electricity for the right bank from its funds.
