Recean: “There are criminals, not an administration, in Transnistria”

Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean stated that criminals, not the administration, operate in the Transnistrian region. He condemned the separatist authorities’ recent attempt to disconnect residents from the internet without a court decision, calling it another example of lawlessness in the area.

Recean emphasized that the Moldovan government seeks to reintegrate the country and restore constitutional order across its territory. He explained that Chisinau cannot currently intervene because it does not control the territory on the left bank of the Dniester.

“There is an unconstitutional regime there. There are criminals, not administration,” Recean told the press. “The government’s task—Moldova’s task—is to reintegrate the Transnistrian region and ensure proper control over the territory. Unfortunately, at this stage, we cannot intervene to enforce the law. But once the country is reunified, the law must apply uniformly across all regions.”

Last week, Promo-LEX raised concerns after Transnistrian officials in the so-called Supreme Soviet proposed new regulations on telecommunications. The draft would allow local law enforcement to instruct providers to cut services for individuals and businesses, with companies required to comply within 48 hours.
