Republic of Moldova Approves Establishment of National Agency to Combat Violence Against Women and Family Violence in 2024


As of 2024, the Republic of Moldova will establish the National Agency for the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women and Family Violence. On November 29, the Executive approved the organizational structure and regulations the institution will operate under.

According to the information note, the Agency’s mission is to implement public policies for the prevention and combating of violence against women and family violence, ensuring the national implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, as well as other relevant international instruments promoting the protection of women’s rights against any form of violence. The Agency is also tasked with coordinating inter-institutional activities in the field of preventing and combating violence against women and family violence and facilitating cooperation and dialogue with the public sector, non-commercial sector, and civil society.

The Agency will be a central administrative authority under the Government and will consist of 22 staff units, including 6 managerial positions, 15 executive positions, and 1 technical support position.

The Agency is led by a Director-General, assisted by a Deputy Director-General, both appointed and dismissed by the Government.

The estimated budget for the Agency’s activities in the year 2024 is 3,995.7 thousand lei.
