Republic of Moldova to the European Social Charter! A round table was held at the Ministry of Labour

“The Republic of Moldova to the European Social Charter: acceptance of the additional provisions of the European Social Charter in the field of social and economic rights” is the title of a round table held in Chisinau on Thursday, March 28. The event was organized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection (MLPS) in cooperation with the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau.

“The event aimed to strengthen the knowledge of national authorities on the European Social Charter system, the work of the European Committee of Social Rights and to provide a platform for discussing at the national level the opportunity to ratify additional provisions of the Charter in the social and economic rights.

The round table was chaired by Tatiana Puiu, Vice-President of the European Committee of Social Rights, and consultant to the Council of Europe, and dealt with the treaty system of the Charter and the European Committee of Social Rights, the national reports, creation conclusions of conformity and non-conformity and the process of acceptance of additional provisions of the European Social Charter.

The event was attended by representatives of national institutions involved in the reporting process on the provisions of the European Social Charter. The Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, Cristina Jandic, welcomed the participants and said that the application of the principles of the Charter will result in increased welfare and social equity among the population,” the ministry’s press release said.

The Republic of Moldova ratified the European Social Charter on 8 November 2001, accepting 63 of the Charter’s 98 paragraphs.
