Reuniting Moldova: Ukrainian President Envisions Transnistria’s Return After Victory

In a statement made in Bulboaca, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his belief that once Ukraine emerges victorious from the conflict instigated by Russia, Moldova will proceed to reintegrate Transnistria.

“We wish you only peace, without bombs, missiles, artillery, and casualties on your land. I am confident that after our triumph, you will become a reunited country, free from rockets and free from Russia,” stated the Ukrainian president.

Referring to the 5+2 format, Zelensky remarked that it is no longer relevant. He emphasized that Kyiv and Moldova share a common position, but he is unsure if other countries will be involved in the case of Moldova’s reunification.

“What should we do with the troops? They will want to live, and they will leave. Those who want to live will find a way out of the situation,” the Ukrainian leader added.

Simultaneously, Zelensky mentioned that they will not summon a “taxi” for Russian military personnel. However, he clarified that Ukraine would not take anyone from there as hostages since it concerns a sovereign territory.

Furthermore, the Ukrainian president emphasized that intervention in the left bank of the Dniester River would only occur if requested by Chisinau. He highlighted that no such requests have been received from the Moldovan government thus far.

Zelensky expressed admiration for Maia Sandu’s pro-European policy and remained optimistic about Moldova and Ukraine’s accession to the EU.

The presence of Vladimir Zelensky at the Bulboaca Political Community Summit on June 1 was announced at the last minute, citing security reasons.
