“Winter is approaching, and we need immediate action to support the Republic of Moldova.” Romania’s Prime Minister, Marcel Ciolacu, made this statement during the Business Forum organized for the Transatlantic Partnership for Energy and Climate Cooperation meeting.
The head of the government in Bucharest also discussed the war in Ukraine and its potential impact on the energy sector. The official reiterated the need to diversify energy sources and production methods.
“As we know, winter is approaching, and the ongoing war in Ukraine requires us to take immediate action to support Moldova, Ukraine, and all countries in the region with vulnerabilities. Now more than ever, we need to be pragmatic and united.
That is why we are enhancing our interconnection capabilities with neighboring countries. We are developing the Trans-Balkan Corridor and the Vertical Corridor with partners from Bulgaria, Turkey, and Greece—vital regional projects for gas. By collaborating with Turkey and Azerbaijan, we have unlocked new potential for cooperation in both gas and energy. Additionally, we have involved new countries like Georgia and Hungary in the Green Corridor, contributing to this unprecedented regional effort.
We are investing billions of euros in new renewable energy capacities and aiming to double Romania’s nuclear capacity. These investments represent the largest historical commitment to all forms of energy production. We aim to modernize the energy sector and make it more resilient to regional and global shocks,” Ciolacu told reporters.
The Prime Minister of Romania emphasized that national energy systems influence each other, and climate knows no borders, so state leaders must find effective solutions to these issues.
