Separatist leaders rejected the proposal to establish a European Union civilian mission on the left bank of the Dniester to replace the current peacekeeping mission. Vadim Krasnoselsky made the statement during events held on February 23, which Russia marks as Defender of the Fatherland Day.

Authorities on the left bank organized large scale events for the occasion, including wreath laying ceremonies. Speaking to journalists, Krasnoselsky said that the Transnistrian people appreciate the peacekeepers and thank them for maintaining peace.

Krasnoselsky has repeatedly praised the peacekeeping mission, especially the Russian troops stationed on the left bank of the Dniester. He told the press that Tiraspol rejects any possible deployment of a civilian mission in the region and accused Moldovan nationalists of triggering the 1992 war.

He also claimed that a similar mission operated until June 19, 1992, and failed to carry out its duties.

“They ran away. They did not even write reports about the start of military operations or document the actions of what he called the criminal Moldovan regime at that time,” the Tiraspol leader said.
