A 16-year-old boy died following an incident at a military unit in Cahul. According to preliminary information provided by the police, the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. after a 20-year-old contract soldier allegedly mishandled a Glock firearm in the presence of several people, including a minor visiting the unit.
The alleged accidental gunshot injured an 18-year-old conscript soldier, and authorities transported him to the hospital. Officials said he remains in stable condition and is out of danger.
The 16-year-old experienced severe shock and lost consciousness immediately after the incident. Doctors attempted to resuscitate him, but he died shortly after arriving at the hospital. Authorities reported cardiac arrest as the preliminary cause of death.
Investigators seized the weapon for forensic examination, while law enforcement officers and prosecutors continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
