The șezătoare was one of the most important gatherings in traditional Moldovan villages. During the long winter evenings, people would come together to work, sing and share stories. These gatherings played an important role in passing traditions and crafts from one generation to the next.
Women would bring their handiwork with them, spinning, sewing, knitting or weaving, while every activity was accompanied by stories, songs and advice. People of different ages gathered around the table or the hearth, with the most skilled teaching younger generations the secrets of traditional crafts.
For young people, these gatherings were also an opportunity to socialize. Songs, games and laughter were an essential part of the evenings.
Today, the șezătoare remains a symbol of traditional village life and is being revived through cultural events, allowing younger generations to discover and preserve Moldova’s folk heritage.
