Shahed-136 Drone Enters Moldovan Airspace During Russian Attacks on Ukraine

A Shahed-136 (Geran-2) drone illegally entered the airspace of the Republic of Moldova early Thursday morning, August 20, according to the Ministry of Defense.

The drone was detected and monitored by the National Army’s airspace surveillance systems.

According to the ministry, the drone was detected at 3:16 a.m. after illegally crossing the state border from Ukraine near the village of Cotlovina in the Reni district of Ukraine’s Odesa region. It then entered Moldovan airspace in the direction of Etulia village in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia.

The military drone left Moldova’s airspace at 3:22 a.m., flying from Etulia back toward Ukraine, authorities said.

The Ministry of Defense said the incident occurred amid Russian aerial attacks on Ukraine during the night of August 19–20.

No casualties or damage have been reported in Moldova so far.
