Stricter Pollution Controls Introduced for the Energy Sector

Parliament adopted a draft law today to enhance pollution control by aligning existing regulations with the provisions of the Law on Industrial Emissions.

The proposed amendments include replacing the current authorization for atmospheric emissions from fixed pollution sources with an integrated environmental permit. Additionally, the amendments update the responsibilities of environmental inspectors, granting them the authority to verify compliance with environmental permits and initiate the withdrawal or suspension of these permits when necessary.

The draft law also updates the Law on Electric Energy, requiring producers, transporters, and electricity distributors to obtain an environmental permit, as stipulated in the Law on Industrial Emissions.
