Moldovan travelers who have planned summer vacations and are preparing to fly will pay additional fees due to rising aviation fuel (kerosene) costs. The surcharge ranges from €25 to €30 per person for round-trip flights to destinations such as Turkey, Egypt, Montenegro, Tunisia, Bulgaria, and Greece, while long-haul charter flights, such as those to Vietnam, can see increases of around €100.
According to the National Association of Travel Agencies of Moldova, the changes mainly affect packages with imminent departures, including some flights scheduled for June. Most other summer packages have not yet been adjusted.
The association says airlines and tour operators are passing on higher fuel costs driven by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have affected global energy markets since March. In some cases, airlines apply contractual clauses that allow ticket prices to be adjusted when operating costs rise.
The association emphasizes that these increases reflect only fuel cost differences and do not include additional commercial markups. It also notes that adjustments may reverse if fuel prices fall.
Under current legislation, tourists must be informed at least 20 days before departure about any price changes and can choose to accept the new conditions or cancel the package without penalties, depending on contractual terms.
The association also notes that such adjustments are permitted when contracts include clauses linked to objective factors such as exchange rates, supplier tariffs, and transport costs, including fuel prices.
