The authorities renovated the pedestrian alley on Grigore Vieru Street, located in the center of the capital, as part of a project launched in 2022. They widened and paved the walkway, rehabilitated the green spaces with new shrubs and flowers, and installed modern benches. Workers also implemented a modern irrigation system for the green areas.

To enhance safety and comfort, the team modernized the street lighting, installed a video surveillance system, and reorganized and marked the existing parking spaces. They repainted the cast-iron fences on both sides of the road and improved access for people with disabilities by adjusting the height of the sidewalks and elevating the pedestrian crossings.

Along the alley, the municipality installed ten swings and placed a drinking fountain featuring a bronze dove, created in July 2022 by sculptor Veaceslav Jiglitki, an Honorary Citizen of Chisinau and the author of several public sculptures in the city.

Designers also integrated a traditional Moldovan carpet motif into the pavement between Eugen Doga Pedestrian Street and Ierusalim Street, with financial support from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA). At the entrance to the alley, workers embedded the national symbol, the “Tree of Life,” into the pavement.

Authorities removed dozens of advertising panels that had cluttered the alley and nearby intersections, giving the area a cleaner, more open look.

Thanks to the renovation, the Grigore Vieru pedestrian alley has become a vibrant and attractive space for both residents and visitors of Chisinau.
