The Chisinau Court of Appeal rejected the request to compel the CEC to register Munteanu for the elections. His reaction:

The Chisinau Court of Appeal has dismissed the Coalition for Unity and Prosperity’s (CUB) request to force the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) to register Igor Munteanu as a presidential candidate, ruling that the request lacked merit.

The judges issued their decision on October 1, 2024. If the CUB representatives wish to contest it, they have three days to file an appeal with the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ).

The politician announced on social media that he is waiting for the court’s detailed decision. He believes the ruling violated his right to a fair defense and intends to challenge it at the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) within the legal timeframe.

“Justice in the Republic of Moldova does not change its ways, even after some claimed they would perform ‘miracles’ following the vetting process. You should know that during yesterday’s session at the Chisinau Court of Appeal on October 1, 2024, authorities violated my right to defense in the case concerning the annulment of the CEC’s decision (no. 2942/2024), which restricted my right to participate in the presidential elections on October 20, 2024 (case no. 3-124/24).

I consider the decision of the Chisinau Court of Appeal (CAC) illegal, unfounded about the petitioner, and favorable to the defendant (CEC). By protecting the illegalities of this state structure dominated by the interests of those in power, CAC does not uphold the rights of the affected citizens. Anyone among you, esteemed friends, has been or could be in a situation where judges disregard evidence, favoring the interests of the ruling power. They do not restore trust in justice this way, comrades,” wrote Munteanu.

We remind you that the members of the CEC did not register Igor Munteanu as a candidate for the presidency because they found violations in the signature collection process and declared several signatures as invalid gathered in support of him by the registered initiative group.

Munteanu said he would take the matter to the European Court of Human Rights. In his opinion, his exclusion from the presidential race was “unconstitutional,” according to previous statements made by the politician.
