The European Union Entry/Exit System (EES) became operational today, March 2, at several border crossing points between the Republic of Moldova and Romania. These include Leuseni-Albita, Sculeni-Sculeni, Leova-Bumbata, Giurgiulesti-Galati (river and rail), and Ungheni-Iasi (rail).

The Border Police of the Republic of Moldova announced that the EES applies to citizens of non-EU countries who travel to the EU for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

At the first border crossing, officers will scan the travel document, collect biometric data, and create an electronic file for the traveler in the system.

Authorities reminded that the system has already been operating at the Costesti-Stinca border crossing point since October 12, 2025, at Giurgiulesti-Galati and Cahul-Oancea since November 24, 2025, and at Lipcani-Radauti Prut since January 9, 2026.
