A new regional center of the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) will support Ukraine and Moldova in combating disinformation. As part of its mission, the center will also monitor Moldova’s upcoming electoral period to help ensure electoral integrity, the European Commission announced.
The new center, named FACT, will unite a multidisciplinary community of experts to detect and analyze manipulation and disinformation campaigns, with a focus on those originating from Russia.
The European Commission selected all the EDMO centers through a competitive call for proposals. Each center will receive approximately €8.8 million in financial support from the Digital Europe Program for a duration of 30 to 36 months.

“The EDMO and its regional centers operate independently from any national or EU public authority and include organizations committed to the highest standards of professional integrity, ethical conduct, and independence,” the European Commission emphasized in its press release.
The FACT becomes the 15th center in the growing EDMO network.
The European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) and its regional centers play a vital role in the EU’s efforts to understand and safeguard the online information space. They help strengthen societal resilience against manipulation and disinformation by building cross-border, multidisciplinary communities of independent researchers, fact-checkers, and media literacy experts.
