The European Parliament’s leadership approved on Monday, March 10, the decision to open a liaison office in the Republic of Moldova. Siegfried MureČ™an, President of the European Parliament Delegation for the Republic of Moldova, announced the decision.
“Through this office, we will better support the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and other authorities in accelerating European integration and aligning national legislation with EU laws, a key aspect of the accession process. Additionally, the European Parliament office in Chisinau will inform Moldovan citizens about the benefits of European integration and the measures we are taking at the European level to support the Republic of Moldova and its people. It will also help counter Russia’s attempts to manipulate and misinform Moldovan citizens about the European Union,” Siegfried Muresan stated.
The office will serve the entire Eastern Partnership region, reinforcing Moldova’s leadership role.

“Today’s decision is especially a victory for the President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Grosu. President Grosu proposed opening a liaison office in Moldova to the European Parliament two years ago. Since then, there has been continuous dialogue between the authorities in Chisinau and the European Parliament administration until we secured the necessary resources to establish this office,” Muresan added.
Technical preparations will now follow to make the office operational as soon as possible.
