Moldova and Iceland signed their first bilateral air services agreement on Tuesday, May 26, in Chisinau.

Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea and Iceland’s ambassador to Moldova, Friðrik Jónsson (based in Warsaw), signed the document.

The agreement establishes a legal framework for air transport between the two countries. It defines aviation safety standards, fee structures, and the mutual recognition of airworthiness and competency certificates. It also sets procedures for designating airlines and granting operating rights.

Authorities said the agreement will allow the development of direct and indirect air connections, expand Moldova’s aviation market, and diversify destinations available from Chisinau International Airport.

The Ministry of Infrastructure said the deal will improve access to the Icelandic market, increase passenger flows, and strengthen the competitiveness of Moldova’s aviation sector.
