After reports revealed that Alexandru Munteanu would be nominated as the next Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova — information later confirmed by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu — Munteanu issued his first public statement.
“I have received many questions from friends, business partners, colleagues from civil society, and the media. Indeed, I am in discussions with the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) regarding my possible nomination for the position of Prime Minister, and I thank them for their trust. I have not been a public figure, and I understand the need to offer society full transparency and information. At the same time, it is important to respect the legal procedures — to wait for the validation of the election results by the Constitutional Court, the first session of the new Parliament, and consultations with Madam President.
Regarding some of the information circulating in the public space, I want to clarify that I will answer all questions, including about the fact that I have never met, interacted, or partnered with the politician mentioned. Furthermore, the mere appearance of a company in the Panama or Pandora Papers only shows that it was registered in a jurisdiction with a special tax regime — a legal and common practice in international investment. The companies I own or have managed were established in compliance with international law, operated transparently, and fully respected all tax regulations,” wrote Alexandru Munteanu on Facebook.
