The Government Decided: Chisinau International Airport to Be Named After Composer Eugen Doga

The government will rename Chisinau International Airport “Eugen Doga” in memory of the composer Eugen Doga, to express gratitude and respect for his remarkable contribution to developing and promoting the culture of the Republic of Moldova. The Cabinet approved this decision.

Thus, Chisinau International Airport “Eugen Doga” becomes a symbol not only of transportation but also of our country’s artistic and spiritual heritage. “Moldova can generate extraordinary, universal talents,” Prime Minister Dorin Recean emphasized.

Eugen Doga was born on March 1, 1937, and passed away on June 3, 2025. As a titan of musical composition, he represented our country with dignity for more than half a century and carried our nation’s fame worldwide.

The renowned composer left 200 film and theatre scores, dozens of symphonies, romances, and waltzes. People have translated his musical creations into hundreds of languages, and critics consider his waltz from “My Sweet And Tender Beast” a 20th-century musical masterpiece. His music resonated at the opening ceremonies of the 1980, 2014, and 2022 Olympic Games, bringing Moldova to the world stage.

We note that authorities often name international airports after notable personalities, such as Warsaw’s “Frederic Chopin” Airport, Paris’s “Charles de Gaulle” Airport, or Rome’s “Leonardo da Vinci” Airport.
