The government has allocated an additional 380 million lei from the Road Fund for road rehabilitation

Today, the government approved amendments to the Program on the Allocation of Road Fund Resources for the Maintenance and Repair of National Public Roads in 2024. These amendments include redistributing existing resources within the Road Fund and adding 380 million lei to optimize fund usage and ensure timely completion of repair work.

This funding will cover maintenance on national roads year-round and support capital repairs of roads and bridges.

Additionally, the government will allocate 150 million lei to repair regional roads (“G”) spanning about 150 km that need urgent attention. This funding will cover initial costs for tendering and contracting, with projects expected to be completed within the next two years.

Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu highlighted the achievements and plans: “In the last three years, we rehabilitated 700 km of roads—a record for our country. However, this is not enough. I propose reallocating existing resources in the Road Fund and adding 380 million lei through this summer’s budget rectification. A key focus of this redistribution is the rehabilitation of regional roads, crucial for both rural and urban areas. We are starting with an allocation of 150 million lei and plan to rehabilitate at least 300 km of regional roads in 2024-2025. We want to add another 700 kilometers of rehabilitated roads nationwide in the coming years.”
