The Government Investigates Alleged Darknet Sale of Access Keys to Utility Compensation Platform

The Moldovan Government has launched an investigation following reports that access credentials for the compensatii.gov.md platform were allegedly offered for sale on the Darknet. The platform enables Moldovan citizens to request state compensation for utility expenses.

Telegram channels first circulated the claims early Tuesday, May 27.

In response, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection announced it is treating the incident with the utmost seriousness. Ministry officials confirmed that cybersecurity experts are actively checking the system for any signs of unauthorized access. So far, no breach has been confirmed, but investigations continue in coordination with other state institutions.

“The platform is developed to the highest cybersecurity standards,” the Government’s press office stated. “It is hosted and protected by STISC (Information Technology and Cyber Security Service), operates in an isolated and monitored environment, and is accessible only to authorized personnel.”

According to the statement, administrator access requires a qualified electronic signature—a secure, non-transferable authentication method that ensures only authorized users can access sensitive data.

Minister Alexei Buzu emphasized that strict data protection protocols are in place to safeguard citizens’ personal information. He dismissed the circulating reports as “smoke and mirrors,” suggesting the claims lack substance or credibility.
