The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund will announce at the end of this month the launch of negotiations for a new program with the Republic of Moldova, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said. He clarified that the future agreement will strengthen the country’s external credibility and will not include a new financing package.

Responding to opposition criticism that he has not presented an official report to Parliament, Alexandru Munteanu said he chose alternative forms of public communication, ipn.md reports.

“I presented myself before the citizens. I looked for other forms of reporting. I have been very active on social media platforms. I meet with citizens, civil society, entrepreneurs, and mayors. It is another form of reporting, but I will also present a report before Parliament. I believe this will happen at the end of March or the beginning of April. We will discuss with MPs when it is appropriate,” the Prime Minister said during the program Cutia Neagra on TV8.

He explained that he wanted to address lawmakers after achieving concrete results and confirmed the date when the IMF will make its official announcement.

“I understand this custom, but some traditions sometimes need to change. I wanted to present a balance sheet and tangible results. On February 27, in Washington, the IMF Executive Board will meet and announce the start of negotiations for a new program with the Republic of Moldova,” Alexandru Munteanu stated.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the new program will not provide financial assistance.

“It is not a financial program. Frankly, the Republic of Moldova and our budget do not currently need financial injections. We need certification and recognition of our macroeconomic performance to outline our next steps. Certification from the IMF is more important than the money itself,” he concluded.

According to the Prime Minister, Moldova needs validation of its economic performance rather than additional financial support.
