Leveraging the IMF assistance and support from other development partners to accelerate reforms and align public policies with international best practices was a key topic at the closing meeting of the International Monetary Fund mission in the Republic of Moldova, held from December 4 to 17, 2025.

According to BANI.MD, the Ministry of Finance hosted the meeting, where Finance Minister Andrian Gavrilita met with the IMF mission team led by Alina Iancu. State secretaries and representatives of the ministry’s specialized departments also took part in the discussions.

Participants discussed Moldova’s macroeconomic outlook, major economic risks, and ways to strengthen the budgetary and fiscal policy framework. They highlighted progress in implementing structural reforms and maintaining fiscal discipline, along with efforts to support economic growth and investment.

Minister Gavrilita presented the ministry’s reform agenda and emphasized the continuation of fiscal reform, increased efficiency of public spending and capital investments, stronger public finance management, and keeping the budget deficit within sustainable limits. The talks also covered measures to support the business environment, including small and medium sized enterprises, as well as initiatives to modernize public administration and reform the public sector wage system.

During the mission, IMF experts held a series of working meetings with Ministry of Finance teams to analyze economic developments and assess progress in implementing the reform agenda, the source reports.

The Republic of Moldova missed a tranche of about 170 million US dollars under the latest IMF agreement, which expired at the end of October. This amount equals nearly three billion lei. The funds were blocked because the Recean government did not fulfill previously assumed commitments.
