The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) plans to strengthen cooperation with the diaspora in research and higher education. The ministry held a working meeting to present initiatives to leverage the expertise of Moldovan specialists living abroad.
Adriana Cazacu, State Secretary at MEC, emphasized the ministry’s priority to collaborate with the academic diaspora.
“The ministry is launching the Program for Joint Collaboration Projects between the Scientific Diaspora and Research Organizations in the Republic of Moldova (ReBRAIN Program). This program has a budget of 10 million lei. Applicants can submit their files until April 4, 2025. Evaluators will assess the projects in April and May 2025, and authorities will validate the results in June 2025,” MEC stated in a press release.

Ana Calinici, State Secretary of the Government and head of the Bureau for Relations with the Diaspora (BRD), introduced the “Diaspora Engagement Hub” (DEH). This program encourages experienced specialists to return temporarily to Moldova, including in education and research.
Dorina Baltag, a PhD in political science and founder of the “Noroc Olanda” Foundation, highlighted the diaspora’s willingness to contribute to Moldova’s academic development.
MEC, BRD, and diaspora representatives agreed to form a joint working group to manage activities that strengthen ties between researchers and educators in Moldova and abroad.
