The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova reacted to statements made by former Moldovan ambassador to India, Ana Taban, who announced that she had filed a lawsuit against the institution and Minister Mihai Popsoi over her dismissal from office. The ministry confirmed that it had received the lawsuit and stated that it would present its official position during the legal proceedings once the court examines the case.

“The MFA has received the statement of claim and will present the institution’s position within the appropriate legal procedures.

This position aims to ensure a fair trial and the examination of the case exclusively in court, without pressure or speculation in the public space,” the institution stated.

Ana Taban announced on social media that she had sued the MFA. The former ambassador said that her legal action concerns information circulated about an alleged criminal case against her — information she disputes. Taban also said that she learned from the media about her recall from the position of the Republic of Moldova’s first resident ambassador to India.

According to Taban, the ministry later offered her another position within the institution, but she claims that the ministry did not effectively involve her in its activities during that period.

Taban also stated that the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office of Moldova informed her in writing that she is not involved in any criminal case and that no official requests for her recall existed. She further claimed that, after a period of leave, the ministry subjected her to disciplinary sanctions and later dismissed her for reasons including absence from work and lack of access to classified information — accusations she contests.
