Moldovan President Maia Sandu met with Antonio Costa, who assumed the presidency of the European Council on December 1, during her working visit to Brussels.
President Costa reaffirmed the European Union’s strong support for Moldova’s European integration and commitment to initiatives benefiting Moldovan citizens.
“In the near term, we agreed to launch the EU-supported economic growth program promptly, finalize accession negotiations for the Single Payment Area by 2025 to enable Moldovans to avoid transaction fees with EU banks, and eliminate roaming charges,” stated President Sandu.

“Together with António Costa and the European Union, we are on the right path. Moldova will continue to progress and build a brighter future for all its citizens,” she added.
President Maia Sandu’s December 10–11 visit to Brussels marked her first trip following the referendum affirming Moldova’s European course.
