A sum of nearly 20 million lei from the income tax of citizens was transferred this year to non-commercial organizations and religious entities. According to the State Tax Service, over 41 thousand taxpayers chose to donate 2% of the tax paid to the state, IPN reports.
2025 is the ninth year of implementing the percentage designation mechanism. In total, 45,353 taxpayers have submitted their redirection option, of which 41,767 have been validated. The total amount of funds redirected reached 19,922,257 lei, an increase compared to previous years.
The data shows a steady growth in interest for this mechanism. The number of contributors has increased from 16 thousand in the first year of implementation, to nearly 42 thousand in 2025. The number of beneficiaries has also increased, from 302 organizations in 2017, to 1,050 this year.
The majority of funds were directed towards organizations based in the municipality of Chisinau. These represent approximately 55% of all beneficiaries. The remaining amounts reached organizations and religious entities in the districts.
The mechanism allows individuals to redirect 2% of their annual tax by submitting their income statement within the legal deadline, until April 30th.
