The National Bank of Moldova earned a Silver Award at the Romanian PR Award 2025 for its project “A Thousand Reasons to Try MIA.” The distinction recognizes the impact of the instant payment system on how people and businesses make payments in Moldova.

An international jury of experts from 22 countries selected the winning projects. According to the National Bank, the award confirms the institution’s role as a promoter of modern payment infrastructure and underscores the importance of MIA in transforming financial interactions among citizens, companies, and public services.

“MIA is one of the most visible transformations of recent years. It has changed the way people manage their money and simplified interactions with public institutions,” said NBM Governor Anca Dragu.

The instant payment system enables users to make immediate transfers between bank accounts within the country using only the recipient’s phone number. Since its launch in March 2024, the system has attracted 800,000 individual users. One in two mobile banking users now relies on MIA. Since July 31, 2024, companies have been using the system for supplier payments, collections, reservations, and recurring payments. More than 11,000 commercial locations currently accept MIA, and the monthly transaction volume exceeds 100 million lei.

Since July 31, public service institutions have also integrated MIA into EVO and MPay, allowing citizens to instantly pay taxes, fines, administrative fees, and university charges.
