Parliament adopted a Declaration in support of the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine, marking four years since the large scale military invasion launched by the Russian Federation. A group of MPs from the parliamentary faction of the Party of Action and Solidarity initiated the draft resolution, and 65 deputies voted in favor.

Through the Declaration, lawmakers honored the courage and heroism of the Ukrainian people, who for the fourth consecutive year continue to resist the illegal, unprovoked, and unjustified invasion launched on February 24, 2022. Parliament strongly condemned the actions of the Russian Federation, stating that it continues to violate international law and commit war crimes and crimes against humanity, including attacks on civilians, torture, sexual violence, illegal detention and execution of prisoners of war, and the illegal deportation and forced displacement of Ukrainian civilians, including children.

The document reaffirms the unwavering support of the Republic of Moldova for Ukraine sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. It also highlights the importance of continued international assistance, stressing that providing Ukraine with the means necessary for defense and for repelling the aggressor strengthens both Ukraine defense capabilities and overall European security. Lawmakers also reiterated the need to maintain and strengthen sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation.

The initiators called on the international community, national parliaments, and governments to remain united, determined, and consistent in supporting Ukraine. They reaffirmed Moldova readiness to enhance interparliamentary cooperation within the regional format Republic of Moldova Ukraine Romania, known as the Odesa Triangle.

At the same time, the authors emphasized that the accession of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine to the European Union holds strategic importance for the stability, security, and sustainable development of the region and of Europe as a whole.
