The PAS MP Adrian Balutel explained why the president of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Igor Grosu, did not take on the position of prime minister, even though the party won the largest number of seats in the new Parliament. According to Balutel, the PAS leader is aiming for the position of Speaker of Parliament. The statement was made during the Rezoomat program on RLIVE TV.
“The Republic of Moldova is a parliamentary state — I want to reiterate this. Mr. Grosu is aiming for the position of Speaker,” Balutel said.
The deputy emphasized that within the PAS parliamentary faction there are both party members and deputies who are not part of the political organization, which makes the internal consultation process a democratic exercise.
“In the PAS faction, we are not only party members. We also have deputies who are not part of the formation, and this requires a consultative and democratic process within the team. Mr. Grosu is the most suitable person to lead this effort,” he specified.
Balutel added that, in a parliamentary republic, the Parliament plays a key role in implementing reforms and advancing European integration.
“The process of European integration and reform promotion will also take place in Parliament. We need a strong voice and proven leadership in this institution, and Mr. Grosu possesses these qualities,” the MP concluded.
