Leader of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), Igor Dodon, said that his party will support any initiative aimed at changing the current government, including the dismissal of the Government and President Maia Sandu.
The statements were made after Ion Chicu announced his intention to launch a procedure to withdraw confidence from the head of state.
“We, as the opposition, have stated several times and reconfirm that we will support any initiative by any colleague in Parliament or outside Parliament that is aimed at changing the situation. This includes initiatives regarding the dismissal of the Government, as well as those targeting the country’s president. We will support them,” Igor Dodon said before the Parliament’s meeting on July 21.
Deputy Ion Chicu from the “Alternativa” parliamentary faction wants to initiate a procedure to suspend and remove Maia Sandu from office. The politician said the initiative comes amid recent scandals involving representatives of the ruling party. To submit the proposal, the lawmaker needs 34 votes. According to Article 89 of the Constitution, the president can be suspended from office with the support of two-thirds of lawmakers.
