The republican constitutional referendum, in plain language. The second round will not take place!

On October 20 this year, voters in our country will participate in a constitutional referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union, coinciding with the presidential elections. The referendum will take place on the initiative of Maia Sandu, who asked the Parliament on December 24, 2023, to initiate and organize it. It happened after the same month, the same year, the European Council approved the opening of accession negotiations for Moldova. Official information states that the amendment to the Constitution aims to affirm the European identity of the Moldovan people and declare EU integration as a strategic goal for our country.

The question on amending the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova will be: “Do you support the amendment of the Constitution for Moldova’s accession to the European Union?” The voting options will be “YES” and “NO.”

The “221 polling stations set up by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) are open to all Moldovan citizens who have reached the age of 18, including on election day, except those deprived of this right. Citizens can vote with their identity cards, provisional identity cards, and passports, including those with expired validity.

New this year is postal voting, an alternative method of voting for diaspora citizens. For the first time this election, it will be partially implemented in six countries: the USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and Finland. People have pre-registered to vote by this method. The ballot papers will be received by the polling station by 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, three days before the election.

As participants in the referendum, 15 parties in our country have registered. 13 with the “YES” option, among them the Action and Solidarity Party, the National Alternative Movement Party, the European Social Democratic Party, the “Together” Bloc, and with the “NO” option – two parties. These are the Party of Communists and the “Renaissance”.

Voting is not mandatory, but every “yes” or “no” vote matters. It is the moral and civic duty of every citizen to participate. There will be no second round of voting.
