The Russian House in Chisinau will officially stop operating in July 2026. According to Moldovan diplomats, once the agreement governing the activity of the cultural and science center is terminated, several administrative procedures will follow, after which the document will no longer have legal effect starting 4 July 2026.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has finalized all necessary internal procedures for the termination, and the Russian diplomatic mission has been duly notified.

“Under the provisions of the agreement, it was concluded for an initial period of five years and subsequently extended automatically in further five-year intervals. Termination takes effect six months after notification. The agreement will cease to be valid on 4 July 2026,” Moldovan diplomats stated.

Discussions about closing the Russian cultural center began in February 2025, after explosive-carrying drones fell in southern Moldova. At that time, Chisinau communicated its intentions to the designated Russian ambassador, Oleg Ozerov.

The process advanced in November 2025, when the Government approved the decision to end the agreement, later confirmed by a vote in Parliament.
