Our countries have the same aspirations: to be part of a free, democratic, prosperous world. We share the same path—the European path—and undoubtedly, as long as Ukraine remains secure, Moldova will also be safe. Parliament’s Deputy Speaker, Doina Gherman, and the Deputy Speaker of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine, Elena Kondratiuk, stated it at a press conference.
According to the quoted source, the Republic of Moldova has been in solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people since the first day of the war. “We have unequivocally condemned the Russian invasion and offered constant diplomatic, humanitarian, and political support. We continue to offer practical support to the 117,000 Ukrainian refugees in the Republic of Moldova. Immediately after this conference, we will meet with women from the Ukrainian community. They have managed to open small businesses here in the Republic of Moldova. A year ago, we launched the temporary protection mechanism. As of March 1st of this year, authorities extended this mechanism. We are ensuring access to fundamental rights for Ukrainian refugees. In March, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova adopted a declaration on the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which condemns the brutality of the war, an illegal, unprovoked and unjustified war of aggression,” the official said.
She added that in recent years, Moldova has also become an important country for the transit of goods. In 2023, more than 1.6 million tons of goods, mostly grain, transited Moldova to the European Union.
“Despite the war, Moldova and Ukraine are strengthening their transport infrastructure. I want to point out that after 25 years, we have reopened the Basarabeasca – Berezino railway section. We will hopefully start the construction of the cross-border bridge over the Dniester soon. It is essential to mention the international support, especially the recent support approved by the United States House of Representatives – crucial support for Ukraine and regional security, including the Republic of Moldova. The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine have good bilateral relations and a dynamic political dialogue. Our countries share the same aspirations to be part of a free, democratic, prosperous world. We have the same path – the European path,” Gherman added.

The Deputy Speaker of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine, Olena Kondratiuk, thanked Chisinau for its support and spoke about European integration and the possibility of working together in the economic field.
“For us, it is important that peace and security are in Ukraine and Moldova. Peace in Ukraine will depend on the region and maybe the whole world. Ukraine needs to sign declarations condemning Russia for the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children. It’s crucial to utilize Russia’s frozen assets for Ukraine’s reconstruction and to counter the disinformation. We will do our best to integrate Ukraine and Moldova into the EU, and we thank Moldova for helping Ukrainian refugees,” Kondratiuk concluded.
The Ukrainian official will meet in Chisinau with Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, Health Minister Ala Nemerenco, and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Education and Research.
