The third Moldova-Romania Forum on Justice will be organized in Chisinau

The third Moldova-Romania Forum in the justice sector will be organized in Chisinau early next year. This was announced today by Justice Minister Veronica Mihailova-Moraru during a joint conference with Romanian Justice Minister Alina Gorgiu.

The Chisinau justice chief said that forum is a platform of interaction for representatives of all judicial institutions from Moldova and Romania, high-ranking officials from both sides, civil society, and mass media.

Veronica Mihailova-Moraru thanked her colleague for the support and expertise offered to Moldova and said that deepening the bilateral dialog is one of the ministry’s priorities.

“Of course, the experience of colleagues from Romania is very important when we talk about ensuring access to fair and transparent justice. The implementation of best practices in the penitentiary system and training of penitentiary and probation officers are also welcome. Last but not least, we have established good cooperation and rapprochement between representatives of the Romanian and Moldovan legal professions, and I am so happy about the willingness of the Romanian Ministry of Justice to support our initiatives to strengthen the normative and institutional framework,” the minister said.

For her part, Bucharest Justice Minister Alina Gorgiu said that this was her first official visit.

“I am happy that this first visit of mine as Justice Minister is taking place in Moldova, which is a strong signal that confirms the support Romania gives to Moldova in every field. I thank my colleague for the invitation and the discussions with her team, and I assure you that we will continue our efforts to support RM in relations with the EU and Member States at all levels. We support all the reform goals that Moldova has undertaken, and they are not a few. Romania provides support to obtain by the end of this year, a positive decision on the opening of negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the EU. We express our admiration for the progress you have made in implementing the nine recommendations formulated by the European Commission. We are ready to continue providing technical assistance to the Chisinau authorities in the process of justice reform and strengthening the rule of law we share our experience, especially in the pre-accession period, which was not easy even for Romania,” Gorgiu concluded.
