On the World Refugee Day, marked on June 20, the Embassy of the United States of America in the Republic of Moldova announced that this year it honors the strength and courage of all Ukrainians forced to leave their homeland, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In a message posted on a social-media platform, the diplomatic mission writes that “a perpetual refugee crisis began in Europe at the end of February 2022, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Since then, more than 7.5 million refugees have fled Ukraine, of which more than 473,000 have entered and transited through the Republic of Moldova. “
“On World Refugee Day this year, we honor the strength and courage of all Ukrainians who have been forced to flee their home country to flee conflict and seek safety, as well as the generosity of the Moldovan people who have provided them with shelter and continue to assist them in rebuilding their lives. The United States will continue to support these initiatives in Moldova and around the world to help refugees”, wrote USAID Moldova.
