The Republic of Moldova will receive a non-reimbursable grant of €12 million from the European Union for the renovation of the Valcinet-Ocnita-Balti-Ungheni-Chisinau-Cainari railway corridor. The Parliament has ratified the investment grant agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Investment Bank under the “Moldova Solidarity Lanes” initiative.
The €12 million investment in Moldova’s railway infrastructure will positively impact the business environment and citizens. This funding will increase the volume of goods transported by rail by removing weight restrictions on these sections. Additionally, passenger numbers are expected to rise as trains will operate at higher speeds, reducing travel time. Consequently, national road routes and border crossings will be less congested as more goods will be transported by train, reducing reliance on trucks.
