The Government led by Vasile Tofan was officially sworn into office on Wednesday, July 22. The ceremony took place at the Presidential Administration in the presence of President Maia Sandu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.
In her address, Maia Sandu congratulated the members of the new Cabinet and urged them to prioritize Moldova’s European integration, continue the reforms already underway, and fulfill the commitments they made before Parliament.
“The agenda is clear. We must continue aligning the Republic of Moldova with European standards. Over the next few months, we have important milestones to achieve in the European integration process, and I ask you to prioritize these efforts. In the coming weeks and months, we also have to complete several major reforms that have already been launched,” Maia Sandu said.
The president recalled that during Tuesday’s parliamentary session, the new Government committed itself to ambitious goals in economic development and state modernization.
“Yesterday in Parliament, I heard major promises regarding boosting economic development, improving the business environment, ensuring better management of public assets, and making more effective use of European funds. We ask you to keep your word,” the president stated.
Maia Sandu also stressed that the Executive must pay particular attention to national security, strengthening defense and public order institutions, ensuring energy security, and investing in education, culture, healthcare, social protection, and environmental policies.
“It is clear that the agenda is very ambitious and expectations are high. It is also clear that all these goals must be achieved in an increasingly complex regional and international environment. Personally, I have every confidence that, together with Parliament and with the support of the Presidency, this Government will succeed. I wish you every success,” Maia Sandu concluded.
On July 21, Parliament granted a vote of confidence to the Government led by Vasile Tofan, with the support of 53 lawmakers. MPs also approved the Government’s program, titled “European Economy, Efficient State.”
