Starting July 31, the United Kingdom has eliminated all import taxes and tariff quotas for 7 agricultural products from the Republic of Moldova. “Starting today, the United Kingdom eliminates all import taxes and tariff quotas for seven agricultural products originating from the Republic of Moldova. The United Kingdom continues to support Moldova strongly and do everything possible to assist the population, as Moldova is the second most affected country by Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine,” stated a declaration from the British Embassy in Chișinău on July 31.
Diplomats added that “The Agreement signed in May by the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Steven Fisher, and the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization of the Republic of Moldova, Vadim Gumene, comes into force today for an initial period of 12 months.”

“This will provide Moldovan enterprises with more opportunities to increase their exports of products such as tomatoes, garlic, table grapes, apples, plums, grape juice, and cherries,” mentioned the Embassy representatives.
It is worth noting that on May 25, the Agreements amending the Agreement on Strategic Partnership, Trade, and Cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, signed in Chișinău on December 24, 2020, were signed.
Moldovan authorities declared that “the amendments to the agreement provide for the unilateral and temporary elimination (for an initial period of 12 months) of tariff quotas on the import of agricultural products originating from the Republic of Moldova into the British market (currently, the quotas are established for the following agricultural products: tomatoes, garlic, table grapes, apples, cherries, plums, grape juice), as well as the temporary elimination of entry prices for the agricultural products indicated in the agreement.”
