A group of 11 Moldovan tourists in Tokyo cast the first votes for Moldova’s presidential elections, fulfilling their civic duty despite being far from home. United by their love for their country, a group of Moldovans from various professions—business, IT, and others—added a visit to the Moldovan Embassy in Tokyo to their travel itinerary.
“We are here, in front of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Tokyo, and we say “Good morning” to all our friends, relatives, and citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” said Vitalie Chiriac.
The first-time voters urged Moldovans to turn out to vote at any polling station.
“We are happy that we were the first to do so, and in general, I think it would be good for all Moldovans to get used to being first. Come on, Moldova! Get out and vote! Let’s go out to vote!” urged the first voters.
Moldovans living in Japan are also starting to vote.
“Moldova is not a place. It is a people, and every vote counts,” says Elena Naik.
